With the New Year Holidays almost upon us this is a good time to have a last look at 2011 (the year that was). The major stock market index on the world stage the flagship U.S. S&P 500 stock index (SPX) looks like it will close out the calendar year just about where it started out.
NB: The US currency as measured by the U.S. Dollar Index also looks like it will have a flat year.

Most stock pickers and countries stock indexes struggled to match the SPX. 2011 for me was a year that is best described as a ‘Fear Cluster’ year! Nothing like the GFC year of 2008 but the news flow and outlook has really challenged the nerve of even the most seasoned stock market professionals around the world.
