Albert Einstein also endorsed visionary thinking. The kind of thinking that makes us the custodions of the Earth and its Atmosphere. The kind of thinking that will enable us, with perseverance, to balance up the carbon cycle and master the secrets of space & time.

Some Energy Basics

Consider the equation:

Energy Needs == Base-load + Renewable Energy

The trouble with this equation is that it does not balance up.

For instance, if there is no wind or sun at peak demand, we have a shortfall. Base-load cannot be moved up or down on demand. We all want more Renewable Energy but we can not without a variable! This is the true value of Meth-Gas (CH4) or Hydrogen (H) as it is the only thing that I can think of that currently fits this variable.

So here is a new equation:

Energy Needs == Base-load + [Meth-Gas(CH4) + Renewable Energy]

Meth-Gas(CH4) can balance out this equation in more than one way. It can be fired up on demand and it can also be used as a store (like a battery: H₂0 + CH₄ + Energy == CO + 6H) when Renwable(s) are at peak or over production.

Real World Forms

In the real world our equation needs better form, this is like a Platonic four-fold Tetraktys.

So we should restate our equation like this:

Affordable Energy Needs == cost.Base-load + cost.[Meth-Gas(CH4) + Renewable Energy]

Affordable Energy Needs == pollu.Base-load + pollu.[Meth-Gas(CH4) + Renewable Energy]

The purpose of putting these equations side by side so that we can appreciate that pollution (pollu) is embedded in the cost (unity). Take unity.Base-load ‘Old King Coal’ for instance; it is conveniently cheap and available but we brush the ‘future crime’ pollution cost under the carpet!

In Australia, where we are now is that unity.Base-load is by far the Greater output and unity.[Meth-Gas(CH4) + Renewable Energy] the Lesser (target 80:20).

I propose to everyone that we have a compelling “Worst Difficulty Argument” to this problem and that is to put a moratorium on new coal-fired power stations.

Instead we should construct the more flexible and cleaner Meth-Gas(CH4) power stations.

This in turn will allow us to crank up the Renewable Energy component in our simple equation.

We can now write:

Affordable Energy Needs == unity.[Meth-Gas(CH4) + Renewable Energy] + unity.Base-load
Where unity.[Meth-Gas(CH4) + Renewable Energy] is the Greater (60:40) output; which is our will.
